The Vice President of EndFund, Kimberly Kamara, and the Senior Associate, Programmes, Mr. Moses Aderogba, on Monday, March 10, 2025, paid a working visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) to inspect the institution’s research facilities and assess the progress of scientists working on grants awarded by the global philanthropic organization.

During the visit, Kamara introduced EndFund to the University, explaining that the organization primarily sources its funding from private philanthropists committed to tackling neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). She emphasized the significance of partnerships with research institutions like UNIOSUN in advancing scientific solutions to these pressing health challenges.

Commending the University’s efficiency in grant management, Mr. Moses Aderogba lauded UNIOSUN’s proactive approach to supporting researchers. He noted that while some institutions struggle with delays in document processing and fund disbursement, UNIOSUN has demonstrated exceptional commitment by ensuring that scientists receive their research funds promptly after End Fund releases them into the University’s account.

“We requested some documents, and the University provided them in record time, something that many organizations struggle with. In some cases, research suffers because institutions fail to release funds to scientists on time, but here, everything works seamlessly. This system allows researchers to focus on their work without unnecessary financial delays,” Aderogba remarked.

Following an inspection of the University’s research facilities, the End Fund team expressed their satisfaction, stating that they were convinced of the institution’s commitment to fostering high-quality research. Kamara particularly praised UNIOSUN’s Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory, describing it as impressive.

“It is very important that we visit to see the facilities before funding, and we are not disappointed with what we saw. The presence of young researchers being mentored by global leaders shows that there is a sustainability plan in place, ensuring continuity in impactful research,” Kamara stated.

In response, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIOSUN stated that his personal experience in securing research grants has shaped his leadership approach, making him a strong advocate for research support within the University. “Many Universities face challenges in handling research funding, but at UNIOSUN, we have built a system that prioritizes researchers and ensures they have what they need to succeed. Generating knowledge is key to societal development, and our researchers are dedicated to using their expertise to address critical issues,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.

Highlighting the importance of research in combating neglected tropical diseases, the Vice-Chancellor stressed that many lives are lost due to lack of knowledge. He noted that scientific discoveries play a crucial role in addressing these health challenges, adding that some NTDs remain unidentified, making ongoing research even more critical.

“The kind of knowledge generated through research is what society needs to overcome its challenges. Many people suffer and die due to neglected tropical diseases, simply because the necessary knowledge is not yet available. This is why research is indispensable as it helps us identify and solve problems that affect millions,” he added.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended End Fund for its commitment to project monitoring and evaluation, emphasizing that tracking the use of funds rather than relying solely on reports is a crucial step in ensuring transparency and efficiency.

The visit underscored the strong partnership between End Fund and UNIOSUN, reinforcing the University’s reputation as a hub for impactful research that contributes to global health solutions.
